Permanent house of Jupiter, Temple, place where Cows are kept, plants which are grown by sowing branches like money plant, wealth, in-laws, our own family, amount of hunger, sour-n-sweet taste, region in between eye brows where तिलक is offered, meeting place of Rahu-Ketu, Pipal tree, brass, yellow dust, yellow color, North-West, artificial Venus (Rahu+Ketu) etc.

Planet posited in 8th aspect 2nd and planet posited 2nd aspect 6th hence 5th and 8th gets connected with each other 8th house. Planet posited in 2nd house is considered as planet of fortune and it gives good results when 8th is vacant. If there is no planet in 10th, it will be considered as planet who is unable to give its good results or in other words,  सोया हुआ ग्रह

The first house is compared with the chair of state for a monarch and the planet posited is the King of the Horoscope or the planet of fortune. If there is no planet posited in first house look for planet of fortune in 7th, 4th or 10th house. If all quadrants are vacant look in 5-11-3-9 house. If they are also vacant, get the planet of fortune in 8-12-2 houses.  The planet who is exalted, कायम as explained earlier or in own house will be the planet of fortune. As the first house is compared as the king, 7th is minister of the king. If they are inimical, it results in poverty. Planets who are exalted, debilitated, permanent lord or own house planet do not fight in this house but others do. For example, if Mercury is placed in ascendant along with more planets and Ketu is alone in 7th house, Mercury - Ketu will fight each other resulting in no Ketu - male child till the age of Mercury i.e. 35 years or male child will die. After 35 (Mercury) years and till 48 (Ketu) years, one male child will be there. If two male children lives after 48 years, it will adversely impact Mercury - daughter.

The permanent house of Rahu is 12th but it is the debilitation house of Rahu. Similarly, Ketu is debilitated in 6th house. When Rahu and Jupiter are conjunct in 12th house, Jupiter is unable to give positive results. Rahu in 12th house (sky) with Jupiter (air) indicates that the air will move upwards in the sky and cause choking or breathing problems. Whereas Rahu in Mercury house in 6th will give good results. Also, 3rd house for Rahu and ninth house for Ketu are auspicious.

Sixth house is jointly ruled by Mercury and Ketu. When Mercury is placed in third house and 6th is empty, Ketu will be taken as lord of 6th house. But when Mercury is not placed in 3rd house, Mercury or Ketu either will become lord of 6th house whoever is well placed. 

12th house is jointly ruled by Jupiter and Rahu. When Jupiter is not in 9th house and 12th is vacant, Rahu will rule 12th and when Jupiter is present in 9th house, Jupiter+Rahu jointly i.e. Mercury, the artificial planet,  will rule the 12th house.

Lal Kitab - Nature of Planets

Pandit Roop Chand Ji has taken two Mars. The benefic Mars is मंगल नेक  who is benevolanet and believes in donation. Benefic Mars is compared with Lord Hanuman who is born in Scorpio ascendant with Mars exalted in third house. The second Mars is  मंगल बद or malefic Mars who is extremely greedy and worst malefic. Malefic Mars is compared with the destrcutive power of God, i.e. Rudra image of Lord Shiva. Moon is compared with Lord Shiva who blesses everyone for longevity and goodness.

As Sun rules over day and Saturn rules night. When they are together, i.e. day and night are together, they are compared with Mercury. In other terms, Pandit Roop Chand Ji states that there are two artificial planets for each planet similar to as mentioned above.It will be explained later.

When ever Sun and Saturn are together and any one of them is malefic, Sun will give results like debilitated planet till 22 years and Saturn will give results like debilitated planet till 36 years. Also, when ever Sun afflicts Venus, the friend of Saturn, Saturn one sided aspect to Sun saves Venus (marital life). In this if Sun also aspects Saturn, Saturn will not be able to save Venus.

As we know, that Saturn rules over 10th house. Saturn is significator of vision in general. When there are inimical planets in 10th house, they will give results like blind planets and the horoscope will be called as blind horoscope. As they will fight in 10th house, they will adversely impact 10th and 4th house.

Sun in 4th with Saturn in 7th, the horoscope is called as रतांध or half night blind horoscope.


When Rahu and Ketu are in conjunction with Moon or placed in 4th house and at the same time Saturn is in 11th, the permanent house of Jupiter or Saturn is conjunct with Jupiter; Rahu-Ketu-Saturn will be considered as धर्मी or righteous planets. It does not mean that they will start giving benefic results but their evil results be greatly reduced.


When two planets are posited in adjacent houses and they are friends; they tend to help each other as good neighbors but if inimical, they will keep no relationship with each other.


When inimical planet or planets are placed in permanent houses of two friendly planet. And even if the two friendly planets are placed in a horoscope as friendly planets; there will be feeling of some enmity between the two friendly planets.

Planets of sacrifice: Due to the enmity of two planets, significations of the third planet suffer. for example when Sun and Saturn fight each other, significations of Venus suffer resulting in loss of wife and marital bliss. for example, Sun in 6th house and Saturn in 12th house.

Mercury under problems sacrifices Venus. Mars malefic sacrifices Ketu (male child). Example: Malefic Mars in 10th and Sun in permanent house of Ketu, i.e. 6th house

Venus sacrifices Moon. Jupiter sacrifices Ketu. Sun also afflicts Ketu. Moon puts on Jupiter, Sun and Mars. Rahu Ketu faces all problems themselves.

Pandit Ji mentions very important fact about the Lal Kitab. He states that there is no substitute for spirituality. For God fearing people, his daily Nitya Karma will ward off evils of planets. People who do not perform Nitya Karma but still good human beings, for them, running water like river, four lane intersection of Saturn will help to ward off evils.

कायम ग्रह If a planet is posited in a horoscope in way that no inimical planet is posited in his / her exaltation, debilitation, permanent house or rashi and at the same is not aspected or joined by inimical planet is considered as one of the most important of the horoscope.

  ग्रह का घर  A planet posited in his own sign is called as the house of the planet.
  घर का ग्रह Permanent House of the planet like Jupiter is for 2/5/9/12

Lal Kitab Methodology of Predictions in 35 year cycle

Pt Roop Chand Joshi Ji has divided the duration of a planet again in three parts as it was suggested in Varhsphala. for example, Jupiter's total duration in 35 years cycle is 6 years. As we know Jupiter gives his results in the middle henceforth Jupiter will give his result in middle two years of total six years.

Day lord: This is the same day on which native's birth takes place. Planets are allotted special lorshipds of a day which are:- 

Moon rules over Full Moon night; Venus rules over no moon night; Mars rules over noon; Mercury rules over 4 p.m. evening time; Saturn rules over night and any dark day. Rahu rules over evening sandhya time and Thursday evening; and Ketu rules over early morning and Sunday morning


Time Lord-ship: This is as per following details:-


All nine planets are allotted the ruler-ship in 24 hours of one day and one night.

Starting from Jupiter again, Jupiter rules over 2 hours after Sun rise. Pandit Ji has mentioned the time from up to 8 am for Jupiter. Sun rise time will be different in different seasons and countries. For example in winters, Sun rises around 7:15 a.m. so does it mean that Jupiter will be the time lord only for 45 minutes? It is not clear from Lal Kitab. But as we can understand that such type of allotment of time lordship has to be more or less fix and should not fluctuate every day. Hence, Time lordship for Jupiter is taken as 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Sun: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Moon 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Venus 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Mars 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 


Mercury  4 p.m. to 6 p.m.


Taking 6 p.m. as average Sun set time, we have covered the Sun rise to Sun set time.

The evening is ruled by Rahu (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and Ketu rules over early morning 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. Rest of the night (8 p.m. to 4 a.m.) is ruled by Saturn.


The planet who rules over the day is considered as the house (permanent house only as mentioned below) of the planet of fortune for we can also perform remedies successfully. The planet of birth time is considered as the planet of fortune for we can not perform any remedy. Lets take an example:-


The day lord of a native is Moon and time lord is Rahu. So the planet of fortune, Rahu, will be considered as posited in Moon's house i.e. 4th house. At any point if Rahu start giving any malefic result, remedy of Moon will ward off evils.


House for other planets are as under:-

So, if a native is born on Thursday and the time lord is Rahu, Rahu will be as good as posited in 9th house.

Lal Kitab - State or अवस्था of Planets

When a planet is not posited in his / her own house, permanent house, exaltation or debilitation house, that planet is considered as Rashiphal (राशिफल) planet or maneuverable or शक्की planet. It means that we can perform remedies for the same planet to ward off his / her evils. Remedies may not work for planets as mentioned above. One must opt for spiritual remedies for such planets. 

For example if Sun is posited in first house, it will be almost impossible to ward off his evils effects if any. Even spiritual remedies will not be able to completely remove the evil effect as one must face the result of deeds as destined. Even deities could support to limited extent. God can certainly bless the native with courage and confidence to face difficulties and reduce evils.       

Lal Kitab Periods of Planets

Each planet rules different years of life and gives his / her own special results in different years. Let's see When:-

*The reason for the same are explained below.

**Duration of years in sequence starting from birth year taking 120 years as maximum life span in Kali-Yuga. Immediately after the birth, its none other than the most feared planet Saturn who rules our lives in general for first six years. From 7 to 12 years of the age, its another rated malefic Rahu who rules the life. As we move on, we will see that all nine planets complete one cycle in 35 years. This is called as 35 years round of planets in Lal Kitab.

Before we move further, it will be worthwhile to mention here that Lal Kitab mentions that there is no guarantee of life till 12th year from birth and after 70th year. Even Vedic Astrology also mentions about early childhood death or Bala-Rishtha (बालारिष्ठ) up to the age of 12 years but there is no mention of risk of life and longevity after 70th year.


Now, if we look at the division of age to different planets, it is crystal clear that first six years of life are ruled by Saturn and next six by another rated malefic Rahu causing risk of loss of longevity. In the same fashion, 70 years onwards is the beginning of third cycle of 35 years again starting from Saturn and followed by Rahu. This is taken in the context when native is bestowed life falling in full life term.

The next following planet is Ketu who could also cause problems for especially for people having short or medium life term. Its ruling period of 48 years could prove fatal in many cases.  

The other planets may be benefic planets, would also cause probems in their respective ages if become marka or killers.

*You must be wondering that there are 365 days in a year so how the total is 407 days. The reasons are as under:-

1) Pt Roop Chand Ji has left Nakshatra (28) and Rashi (12) ; Total 40.

2) He suggests that a malefic planet can not give its malefic results before their specified period and good effects of a benefic planet can not extend beyond specified age. But in between the two periods, 40 days are taken as take over periods henceforth, malefic planet can extend its malefic result for 40 days beyond its period and benefic planet can start giving its good results 40 days before its period.

3) This is similar to our mythology of keeping 40 days सूतक after the new birth in paternal family and 40 days पातक after the death of a person in the paternal family.

4) The number of days are also not exactly 365 every year so its taken as 40-43 for this period hence 407 - 43 = 364 to 367 days.

For this very reason most of the Lal Kitab Remedies are prescribed for 40 days minimum and 43 days maximum.

All the planets will continue to give their results till the specified period above until their results are modified by other planets. For example, Jupiter will continue to give results till 16 years; Sun will continue to give results till 22 years; Moon up to 24 years; Venus up to 25 years; Mars up to 32 years; Mercury - 34 years; Saturn- 36 years; Rahu 42 years and Ketu-48 years. Now lets understand how the results will be modified:-

1) Jupiter results will not be modified by other planets     

2) Sun if in conjunction with Rahu i.e. under eclipse would not be able to give any positive results.

    Sun in conjunction with Ketu will be able to give results only up to 1/2 his period i.e. 11 years.

    Sun in conjunction with other planets: no effect

3) Moon with Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and Rahu will give results till half her period: 12 years

    Moon with Saturn: 1/3 of her period that is 8 years.

5) Venus with Sun extends her effects up to 34 years

    Venus with Jupiter extends her effects up to 60 years for her most important signification     i.e. wealth.

    Venus with benefic Mars reduces her results till 8 years.

6) Mercury with Sun and Mars benefic reduces to half i.e. 17 years.

7) Saturn with Jupiter:- 18 years for Father and 27 years for Mother and Property

    Saturn with Sun:- 24 years

    Saturn with Mars or Venus:- 12 years

    Saturn with Mercury: 45 years

8) Rahu with benefic Mars: 0 years

    Rahu and Ketu together:- 45 years.

9) Ketu with Jupiter:- 40 years

    Ketu with benefic Mars: 24 years

    Ketu with Sun:- 24 years

    Ketu and Rahu together:- 45 years.

Each planet is capable of expressing his / her result at 1/2 and 1/4th period of specified age.

In the yearly horoscope, if a planet is present in its permanent house, Pt Roop Chand Ji suggests a special methodology to delineate the result of the planet. For example, when Jupiter is present in his permanent house in yearly horoscope or वर्षफल, result of that house for first four month of the year will be decided by Ketu position in the same yearly horoscope or वर्षफल. Next four months, Jupiter himself will give his results as we have already indicated above that Jupiter gives his results in the middle. Last four months, position of Sun will decide the result of the house where Jupiter is located. In the similar fashion, Sun will give his own results only in first 4 months, Moon will give her own result in last four months; Venus will give results in middle four months. As we know, Mercury gives results through out its period but it will give its result through Moon, Mars and Jupiter.

Saturn, Rahu and Ketu will give their result at the end.

As we know, the planets have natural friendship and enmity among each other. But even friendly planets can behave inimical to each other because of their placement in the horoscope. Lets understand the inherent strength of all nine planets to weigh how strongly they can oppose each other.

Sun is the strongest among all planets. If we rate 9 planets with Sun as the strongest; Sun will be rated as 9/9 i.e 1 as full strength. Moon is 8/9; Venus is 7/9; Jupiter is 6/9; Mars is 5/9; Mercury is 4/9; Saturn is 3/9; Rahu is 2/9 and lastly the weakest among all is Ketu with 1/9 strength. If you notice here, there is only change in the sequence of Lal Kitab planets. Instead of Jupiter, this is Sun who starts the chain, Sun being the head of the Solar System. When we study the same sequence in Vedic Astrology, we could never understand this sequence. Pt. Roop Chand Ji could explain the secret behind without even mentioning it. Lal Kitab is very difficult to understand in the first go so it is requested to learned readers to read the original book again and again. We are humbly trying to clarify Pandit Ji's view point and refraining ourselves from giving and imaginative explanations. Learned readers can deduce their own viewpoints.

Lal Kitab Astrology can be better understood if you have already gone through the Vedic Astrology Course and can predict horoscopes. Lal Kitab Astrology though covers both predictive and remedial astrology but LK is very useful for Remedies. LK never suggests to forget rashi and bhava completely but puts great importance to  position of planets in different houses. Henceforth, it is suggested to give more importance to position of planets in different houses followed by their position in different signs. For example, if Jupiter is placed in first house in Libra sign, we will give more importance to Jupiter's placement in first house rather than Jupiter's placement in inimical sign as lord of malefic houses as per Parashari principles. We will clarify this concept in detail as we proceed further with the subject.

The Aries, Taurus and Gemini signs are associated with index finger (the finger ruled by Jupiter) from top to bottom of the finger. Similarly, Cancer, Leo and Virgo with ring finger (finger ruled by Sun); Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius with little finger (finger ruled by Mercury) and Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces with middle finger (finger ruled by Saturn).

Saturn finger is taken as the last finger for it rules over asceticism or reclusion. 

Aries and Scorpio are ruled by Mars; Libra and Taurus are ruled by Venus; Virgo and Gemini are ruled by Mercury; Aquarius and Capricorn are ruled by Saturn; Cancer is ruled by Moon and Leo is ruled by Sun. Ketu (root of the maleficence) owns Virgo and Rahu (top of the maleficence) owns Pisces. Pisces, i.e. 12th house is compared with Sky whereas sixth house signifies inferno or underground hell.

Houses 1st to 6th signifies right side of the horoscope and 7th to 12th signifies left side. Four Quadrants or Kendras i.e. 1,4,7,10 are the houses compared with the fist or मुठी in hindi. Index finger rules second house; Ring finger rules fifth house; Little finger rules 8th house; Middle finger rules 11th house; Third house signifies all three parts of life and 9th is the center of the horoscope.

LK uses different names for different planets which at times make it difficult to understand the subject. We will keep on explaining the same to the benefit of the learned readers.

For example, Pandit Roop Chand Ji uses Mother for Moon, मछ  or (crocodile) for Saturn, Til (seasame), brother for Mars, Sky, sand etc for Mercury; Lakshmi, Wife, Cow, Mud etc for Venus, Honey for auspicious Mars and poison or  Mars बद meaning highly inauspicious for malefic Mars; word "malefic" is used in reference to three planets viz Saturn, Rahu and Ketu etc.Mangal बद or malefic Mars indicates greed whereas benefic Mars signifies donation.

Jupiter, Mars and Sun are male planets and Venus Moon are female planets. Mercury is eunuch.

"Fix" houses or पक्का घर of nine planets

Sun rules over first house or in other language, first house is the fix or पक्का house of Sun. Second houses is the पक्का घर or fix house or permanent house of Jupiter. This is something similar to signifcator of houses as per Parashari principles. Mars rules third; Moon rules 4th; Jupiter again rules 5th; Ketu rules 6th; Mercury and Venus rules 7th; Saturn-Mars jointly rule 8th house; Jupiter rules ninth; 10th is the पक्का घर or permanent house of Saturn; Jupiter again rules 11th and Rahu rules over 12th house.

Friendship and enmity among planets

For Jupiter: Rahu, Ketu and Saturn are neutral or equivalent. Sun, Mars and Moon are friends and Mercury and Venus are inimical

For Sun: Mercury remains silent in conjunction with Sun. Jupiter, Mars and Moon are friends; Venus and Saturn are inimical and Rahu causes eclipse whereas Ketu also afflicts Sun and can be considered as half eclipse.

For Moon: Venus, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter are neutrals or equivalent; Sun and Mercury are friends whereas Ketu causes eclipse and Rahu afflicts Moon as half eclipse.

For Venus: Mars and Jupiter are inimical. Saturn, Mercury and Ketu are friends whereas Sun, Moon and Rahu are inimical.

For Mars: Venus and Saturn are neutral or equivalent whereas Rahu in conjunct with Mars remains silent; Sun, Mars and Jupiter are friends and Mercury-Ketu are inimical. 

For Mercury: Saturn, Ketu, Mars, Jupiter are neutral or equivalent; Venus, Sun and Rahu are friends and Moon is inimical.

For Saturn: Ketu and Jupiter are neutral; Mercury, Venus and Rahu are friends whereas Sun, Mars, Moon are inimical.

For Rahu: Jupiter and Moon are neutrals; Mercury, Saturn and Ketu are friends and Sun, Venus and Mars are inimical.

For Ketu: Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Sun are neutral; Venus and Rahu are friends and Moon-Mars are inimical.

To summarize, Moon and Venus are neutral but Moon has enmity towards Venus. Jupiter and Venus are neutral but Venus has enmity for Jupiter. In similar fashion, Mars-Saturn are neutral but Mars has enmity towards Saturn; Moon-Mercury though neutral, moon has enmity towards Mercury. Rahu in conjunct with Jupiter, especially in 2nd house, may remain silent but will give its results. Mercury  /  Moon posited in 4th or 2nd house or Mercury-Jupiter or Moon-Mercury in these houses will give auspicious results for wealth.

Days and Time ruled by planets

Jupiter rules over the first part of day time approximately till 8 clock after Sun rise and Thursday

Sun rules over the second part of the day (till 10 o clock)and Sunday

Moon rules over full Moon night, till 11 'o' clock and Monday

Venus rules over no moon night, 1-3 p.m. and Friday

Mars rules over noon, 11-1 and Tuesday

Mercury rules over evening around 4-6 and Wednesday

Saturn rules over whole night or dark day, after Sun set and appearance of stars and Saturday

Rahu rules over evening before Sun set and Thursday evening

Ketu rules over early morning around 2 hours before Sun rise and Sunday morning

Lal Kitab is probably the most admired book for its brilliant and highly effective remedies. I had never thought that some day I will be putting this marvelous book on the internet. It will be worthwhile and useful for the learners who are facing tough time in understanding Urdu and Persian language used by respected Pt. Roop Chand Josh Ji. My actual objective is to offer this most valuable book in its original form with easy to understand language.

Pt Roop Chand Joshi Ji was born in Punjab, India in 1898. He was well versed with Urdu, Persian and English language. He was highly inclined towards studies and used to perform  well in his studies. He lost his mother early in his life. He had some divine powers since his childhood as he used to give past life predictions just by looking at the face and palm of the person. 

Once he went to enjoy his holidays  to his home town. He saw some male divine power in his dream. He could not see his face clearly. That divine power started teaching him Lal Kitab Astrology in his dreams and he used to write the same next morning. Later he started giving consultancy to people. He never used to charge any money. He went for his heavenly abode in 1982.

There are many unnecessary confusions about Lal Kitab and its origin. Actually, Pt. Roop Chand Ji was a very down to earth person and he never aimed for any financial gains or social status. He just wanted to serve the humanity henceforth he wrote Lal Kitab books for students of Astrology. They were published through a publisher well known to him without any authors name.  

Though Pt. Ji was not a Maha Rishi but I personally respect him equal to Maharishi Parashar.
